Robert Rhoades, aka The Truck Stop Killer, is a convicted serial killer and rapist. Rhoades was convicted of three murders, two other murder charges were dropped on request of the victims families. Rhoades is suspected of raping and killing fifty more women between 1975 and 1990.
Rhoades victims were primarily hitchhikers and truck stop prostitutes. Rhoades converted his truck cabin into a torture chamber where he kept his victims, sometimes for several weeks, raping and torturing them.
Regina Kay Walters
In 1990, Rhoades came across 14-year old Regina Kay Walters and her boyfriend Ricky Lee Jones, runaway teenagers from Pasadena, Texas. Rhoades killed Ricky Lee Jones and kept Regina Walters as his sex slave. Rhoades tortured her and did several photo-shoots with her, see picture above, before killing her. After Rhoades finished his last photo-shoot with Regina, he strangled her and dumped her body.
On the morning of April 1, 1990, an Arizona State Trooper came across a truck with its hazard lights on. When he took a look inside the truck, he found a nude woman, Kathleen Vine, handcuffed and screaming for help. Rhoades tried to talk his way out of the situation but it didn’t work and Rhoades was arrested.
Police detectives got a search warrant for Rhoades’ home. They found photos of nude teenagers, later identifies as murder victims Regina Walters and Patricia Walsh.
In 1994, Rhoades was convicted of murder and sentenced to life without parole.
